Ad Library MCP for Cursor: Setup and What to Ask
TLDR
- Cursor supports MCP servers, so you can add Proxy and ask for any brand's live Meta, Google, LinkedIn and TikTok (EU) ads from the chat panel.
- Run curl -sL useproxy.dev/install | sh and pick Cursor, or add the Proxy entry to ~/.cursor/mcp.json by hand, then restart Cursor.
- Cursor signs you in through the browser on the first tool call. Proxy is read-only and uses no API keys.
- The free plan gives 20 credits a day with no card.
A Meta Ads MCP for Cursor sounds odd until you see who uses it: founders, growth engineers and agency developers who live in Cursor and want competitor ad research in the same window as their code, landing pages and scripts. Proxy is the ad library kind of MCP, so it reads other brands' public ads and never touches your ad accounts.
(Proxy publishes this blog and makes the tool described here. Setup steps match the install page at useproxy.dev/welcome, checked October 2026.)
Is there a Meta Ads MCP for Cursor?
Yes. Cursor can run any MCP server. Servers that manage your own Meta ad account are covered in our Meta Ads MCP guide. Proxy is an ad library server: one connection gives Cursor the Meta Ad Library (Facebook and Instagram), Google Ads Transparency Center, LinkedIn Ad Library and TikTok's EU ad library.
How do you add Proxy to Cursor?
With the installer
- Run
curl -sL useproxy.dev/install | shin a terminal. It signs you in once and writes the config for you. - Pick Cursor when asked, then restart Cursor.
- When Cursor asks to run a Proxy tool, run it, or turn on auto-run for Proxy. Proxy is read-only.
By hand
Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
{ "mcpServers": { "proxy": { "type": "http", "url": "https://mcp.useproxy.dev/mcp" } } }
Restart Cursor. Cursor signs you in through the browser on the first tool call. If ~/.cursor does not exist on your machine, the installer falls back to ~/.config/cursor/mcp.json.
What can you ask Cursor to do with ad data?
Because Cursor can read and write files, the useful prompts turn ads into working material:
- "Pull [brand]'s live Meta ads and save the hooks and offers to ads/[brand].md."
- "Search the Meta Ad Library for 'AI note taker', then draft three landing page headlines that answer the angles you see."
- "Find competitors for [my domain], pull their Google ads and write a comparison table to competitors.md."
- "Transcribe this competitor video ad and write a 30-second script that uses the same structure for my product."
- "Run a competitor ad pull for these three brands and set it up as a weekly /automate."
The last one mirrors the starter prompt on the install page: Proxy lists the brands, pulls their ads, compares hooks, offers and formats, and you re-run it weekly.
Credits and limits
Each ad library or analysis call is 1 credit, batch calls are 1 per item, and checking your balance is free. Free is 20 credits a day, Pro is $50 a month for 100 a day and Max is $100 a month for 250 a day. No overage charges: when credits run out you get an upgrade link.
Proxy reads public ad library data only, so there is no spend or results data for commercial ads. TikTok coverage is the EU library, searched by exact advertiser name.
Can you trust an MCP server?
Check four things before you add any MCP server to an editor that can touch your files:
- Read-only or write? Proxy only reads public ad library data.
- How does it sign in? Proxy uses OAuth, so no keys sit in your config file.
- What does it see? Proxy never connects to your ad accounts.
- Who runs it, and is the code open? Proxy is run by one founder, and the open-source ad library servers are on GitHub. Read the about page for the details.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Cursor runs any MCP server. For competitor research, Proxy gives Cursor read access to the Meta Ad Library plus Google, LinkedIn and TikTok (EU) ad libraries. Servers that manage your own ad account are a separate kind.
Run curl -sL useproxy.dev/install | sh and pick Cursor, then restart. Or add a proxy entry with type http and url https://mcp.useproxy.dev/mcp to ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Cursor signs you in through the browser on the first tool call.
Prefer servers that are read-only where you can, sign in with OAuth instead of pasted keys, never request access to accounts they do not need, and publish their code or documentation. Proxy is read-only, uses OAuth and only reads public ad libraries.
Yes. With Proxy connected, Cursor can pull a brand's live ads, search a topic across advertisers, transcribe video ads and write the results to files in your project.
