Calm ads: testing cadence, angles and landing pages
Calm is a meditation and sleep app. We read 223 of 791 active ads (the highest-reach ones) in the Meta Ad Library, plus its Google, LinkedIn ads, and worked out how often it launches creative, which angles it scales, who the copy talks to and where the clicks go.
Calm sends 198 of its 223 sampled ads to ad-specific quiz funnels on quiz.calm.com, one per creative family, and the whole account was rebuilt in the last two weeks: 183 launches in 14 days.

Testing cadence: how often new creative goes live
104 launched in the last 7 days, 215 in 30, 223 in 90; the median active ad is 7 days old and 0% have run 90 days or more. Sampled by reach, so brand-new ads that have not built reach yet are likely under-counted.
The bars show an almost complete refresh: 79 ads launched 7 to 13 days ago and 104 in the latest week, against 11 and 1 in the two weeks before. Median age is 7 days, 96% of the sample started in the last 30 days and none is past 90. The sample covers 28% of 791 active ads and is ranked by reach, so the older tail is under-represented, but the burst itself is large.
Creative mix: format, copy length, placements
- Video66% (147)
- Image21% (47)
- Carousel13% (29)
Median copy length 183 characters (28 under 100, 168 of 100 to 300, 26 over 300, 1 with no body text). Placements: Facebook 100%, Instagram 100%, Threads 100%, Whatsapp 43%, Audience Network 27%. Buttons: Learn more (172), See details (26), Install now (18), Shop now (5), Download (1).
Variant check: the 223 ads share only 26 distinct pieces of copy. 11 copy groups run in 3 or more versions (206 ads), the biggest in 72. Many versions of one message is the signature of a winner being scaled or an angle being tested across creatives.
Messaging and who the copy talks to
- Proof and numbers33% (74)
- Problem or question hook33% (73)
Share of sampled ads whose copy leads with each angle (keyword-matched, one dominant angle per ad). Ads with no clear angle are not shown.
- “Overthinking at 2 AM again? Let's fix that.” video ad, 57 days running, 14 versions
- “How many minutes have you been mindlessly scrolling?” video ad, 11 days running, 72 versions
- “Never heard of bilateral stimulation?” video ad, 0 days running, 24 versions
Audience cues in the copy: stress, sleep and mind (71%), health goals (1%), teams and managers (1%), parents and kids (0%). Angles and audience cues are keyword-matched, so read them as a guide, not a count of record.
A single angle runs the account: EMDR-inspired bilateral audio and binaural sound for a nervous system that will not settle. 74 ads lead with proof-style claims ("bilateral stimulation", "no matter what you have tried") and 73 with a problem hook ("Overthinking at 2 AM again?", "How many minutes have you been mindlessly scrolling?"). The biggest copy group is 72 versions of one pattern-interrupt video. 158 ads carry stress, sleep or mind cues, and the CTA is Learn more (172), not Install. The offer is a quiz, not a trial.
Landing page strategy: where the clicks go
- quiz or flow89% (198)
- app store8% (18)
- dedicated landing page2% (5)
- other page1% (2)
223 ads in the sample carry a link and point at 17 distinct pages across 5 hosts (quiz.calm.com 198, play.google.com 18, calm.com 5, info.calm.com 1, health.calm.com 1). 1% use UTM tags (utm_source=b2b-facebook-ads on 2, utm_medium=paid on 2).

We opened the top pages (October 29, 2026): quiz.calm.com/calm-cbe69 loads directly, marked noindex (hidden from search, so it exists for ads only); quiz.calm.com/calm-c82a3 loads directly, marked noindex (hidden from search, so it exists for ads only); quiz.calm.com/calm-c1479 loads directly, marked noindex (hidden from search, so it exists for ads only).
The funnel is the interesting part. 198 ads go to quiz.calm.com with a different code per family (calm-cbe69 with 42 ads, calm-c82a3 with 40, calm-c1479 with 34, calm-cc7b0 with 25). The three quiz pages we opened carry a noindex tag, so they exist only for ads. 18 ads go to Google Play (the Portuguese self-care set) and just 5 to calm.com. So Calm tests the funnel, not the app listing: each creative family has its own quiz, and the quiz hands off to the app.
What to steal
- Replace "Install now" with a short quiz that ends in a personalized result: it asks for a small commitment first and gives the app a reason to match.
- Name one mechanism ("EMDR-inspired bilateral audio") and run it in 72 versions of the same pattern-interrupt hook.
- Give each creative family its own funnel code so conversion can be read per angle.
What to watch
- Whether the quiz funnels spread to other creative: only one mechanism (bilateral sound) runs this hard right now.
- The B2B side: the LinkedIn ads sell Calm Health to employers and health plans, a separate story from the consumer quiz.
How to read this: the library lists active ads only and shows no spend, so launch counts are survivors, start date approximates launch, and a sample ranked by reach favors proven ads. We could read the quiz pages only as noindex shells (no title text), so what the quiz asks is not shown. Written from the October 29, 2026 snapshot; sampled 223 of 791 active ads (the highest-reach ones).
Across platforms: what else stands out
Google lists about 2,000 ads under Calm.com, Inc., 58 of 120 sampled first shown in the last 30 days.
LinkedIn (44 ads) is a different company: it sells Calm Health with proof statements about cost per member and message ads to HR and benefits buyers ("Your clients are likely asking how to keep their workforce productive").
